Discover the history of the Alpestre brand
ALPESTRE has an ancient history. It begins in France, in an hermitage on the Gier river.
It was 1857 when Friar Emanuel, a Marist priest, expert connoisseur of the therapeutical virtues of herbs, developed the precious recipe that united the beneficial properties of 34 different herbs in a sapient formula that encloses the secret of a GREAT distillate.
ALPESTRE was once called the “Arquebuse dell’Hermitage”. From the very first years it had a great success also thanks to its beneficial principles. In fact the French government requested the precious product to send to its soldiers in the colonies, to be used as a first aid remedy.
The name “Arquebuse” came from the use of the distillate to cure wounds provoked by the enemy’s arquebuses. The Hermitage was the place where it was made.
After the emanation of anticlerical laws at the beginning of the 1900s in France, the priests move to Carmagnola near Turin taking the art and secret of the preparation jealously handed down from one generation to the next with them. Here, in 1904, they establish today’s distillery of ALPESTRE.
In time, the “Arquebuse” became so successful that many copies and counterfeits were made. For this reason, besides the prohibition during Fascism to use foreign names, that the friars decided to change its name to ALPESTRE.
ALPESTRE is a hydroalcoholic distillate of medicinal herbs and plants. It is febrifugal, digestive, tonic, refreshing, antiseptic and naturally aromatic. It is prepared according to a secret recipe so that all the active principles of the plants are extracted completely and unaltered.
Today, as was back in the day, expert herbalists cultivate the 34 aromatic and medicinal herbs until they are perfectly mature.
After the careful harvest and expert dosage, the 34 herbs are first left to macerate and then accurately distilled.
To make the beneficial aromatic properties of the plants concentrate in the liquor, ALPESTRE is left to age for at least 10 years in traditional Slavonia oak barrels.
ALPESTRE is then bottled as pure as it comes out of the barrel, without sugar or additives.
